About Haytongate Barn
Haytongate Farm was built in the 1840’s though there was some kind of habitation on the site prior to that. It actually sits on the line of Hadrian’s Wall and the stone used to build the small farm would have been taken from the remains of Hadrian’s Wall. Some of the original wall is surprisingly still visible in the field immediately to the east of Haytongate.
The farmhouse was rebuilt in 1994 by Mike & Julie Nelson, the present owners who live next door in Haytongate Farmhouse. The Barn was converted and fully modernised in 2009. Modern technology has been incorporated into the old building to provide the comfort and convenience of modern appliances while keeping the charm and character of the old building.
